A long pending demand of Bengaluru citizens will finally be met with the city corporation opening up parks to citizens all through the day.
Citizen groups had been protesting against the BBMP rule that permited entry and use of these lung spaces of garden city for just few hours a day.
The parks, that would only be open from 6am to 10am and 4pm to 7pm until now will henceforth be open from 5am to 8pm. Maintenance work though will be carried out mid-day between 10am and 1.30pm.
As per the order issued on Tuesday by BBMP Chief Commisioner Girinath, the new timings will apply only to parks and not the green spaces around lakes in the city.
Until now only the two large parks, Cubbon park and Lalbagh, which come under the state horitculture department, were open through the day and people had been protesting against the closure hours of the rest of the gardens in the city.
Citizens had been protesting for a change in timings of parks saying that closing them down after 10 denied people the only free public access spaces to rest.
As reported by One India, there are a total of 1,118 parks managed by the BBMP, with the remaining under the jurisdiction of the BDA and BWSSB.
’The decision has been taken to extend the timings in acceptance of the appeals of various resident welfare associations and walking groups,’ said the Girinath, as quoted.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
