In a major development for India's LGBTIQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender/transsexual, intersex and queer/questioning) community, the country is set to get its first ever hiring consultancy dedicated to the LGBTIQ community, reports The New Indian Express.
The diversity and inclusion driven consultancy firm, based in Bengaluru and named, 'Pride Circle' plans to break stereotypes and issues over unequal pay and meagre corporate representation for the people from the community. The development comes almost a year after the Indian Supreme Court's landmark judgment decriminalising homosexuality.
Co-founder of the Pride Circle, Ramkrishna Sinha says, "There is a lot of systematic bias and roadblock for LGBTI job seekers, these become even more challenging for visibly LGBTI individuals."
He added, "Our goal is to work with companies to eliminate such conscious or subconscious biases in the recruitment process and also work with candidates to enable them for facing interviews."
The firm recently conducted its first job fair in Bengaluru with over 40 companies including the likes of Uber and Intel participating in the event. Over 300 participants took part in the fair. The firm seeks to place over a thousand LGBTIQ candidates within a year.
