According to recent data released by TRAI, Reliance Jio is the only telecom company in India that added new mobile subscribers to its network in September 2018, as reported by Mint.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is a statutory body that regulates the telecommunication sector in India. However, Digital Communications Commission, under the Union Ministry of Communications, is the highest decision-making body in the government.

“The number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 1,189.08 million at the end of August 2018 to 1,191.40 million at the end of September 2018, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.2 per cent,” the report stated.

Vodafone India, India’s largest telecom company, lost the largest number of subscribers, over 80 lakh customers from its user base. On the other hand, Reliance Jio was the biggest gainer, adding over 1.3 crore mobile subscribers. Bharti Airtel lost around 23 lakh mobile subscribers.

Recently both Vodafone Idea and Airtel informed their respective users that their SIMs would be deactivated if they fail to recharge their accounts with a minimum of Rs 34 every month.

It should also be noted that while both Vodafone Idea and Airtel posted losses for Q2 2018, Reliance Jio posted a comfortable profit margin for the same period.
