Union Government has approved Rs 65,000 crore for revamping the existing rail infrastructure in Mumbai. Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal announced that the Government of Maharashtra has been very supportive of their initiatives.
The Hans India quoted him as saying that, given the pace of infrastructure and public amenity works being executed by the Railways, in the next four to four-and-a-half years, the suburban rail network of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai or Mahamumbai would see a complete metamorphosis.
A new suburban rail corridor in Navi Mumbai connecting Nerul-Seawoods Darave-Belapur-Kharkopar has been commissioned. Services shall commence regularly on the new corridor beginning Monday, and will connect Ulwe node in Navi Mumbai with the international airport and Panvel (on the Harbour route).
He added that with the right push from the Indian Railways, Maharashtra is aiming to become a trillion-dollar economy by 2025. Apart from inducting new passenger amenities, Goyal also inaugurated eight MEMU services on the Vasai Road-Diva-Panvel-Pen stretch. Across 77 railway stations, 318 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines have been placed. In six stations, there are ten new lifts and six toilets. In 23 stations, over 41 new escalators have been installed.
IP-based train indicators have found its place at ten stations. 206 CCTV cameras have been installed across six stations.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
