Commuters have complained that the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transportation Corporation (BMTC) website has been dysfunctional despite winning awards for being technologically advanced, The New Indian Express has reported.
“We have been checking the site and found it to be continuously out of order for the past two to three months. While the homepage opens, other services listed do not work. For example, we wanted to use the website for gathering data on schedules cancelled, performance indicators and bus routes, which we have not been able to use for a long time,” member of Bengaluru Bus Prayanikara Vedike (Bengaluru Bus passenger’s union) Vinay Sreenivasa told The New Indian Express.
The non-governmental organisation (NGO) Citizens for Bengaluru have said that crores were spent on intelligent transport system, but the website itself does not function.
However, the chief systems manager of BMTC, Nagendra told, “We notice the website has been hanging for a few months now due to excessive traffic. This happened when we first announced student passes and opened for recruitment. We got about three lakh visitors checking the site for student bus passes and 80,000 for the recruitment drive, which caused some links to hang.”
Further, he added that the website was under maintenance and it would be fixed soon.

The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
