A neighbourhood junction in Kandivli part of Mumbai was renamed Assumption Chowk on Sunday, Times of India has reported. The junction was named after the Our Lady of Assumption Church. The Bombay Catholic Sabha (BCS) is the force behind the renaming of the junction.
The renaming ceremony was attended by its priest and other clergies. Bishop John Rodrigues unveiled a black granite plaque engraved with golden letters.
Ronald D'Souza of BCS said, "In 2014, then parish priest Fr Elias D'Cunha envisioned this chowk. He inspired BCS to secure sanction along with corporator Shailaja Girkar. After Girkar's sudden death, it was at her husband MLC Vijay Girkar's intervention that we finally received the permission to rename the junction Assumption Chowk."
The parishioners and churchgoers of Kandivli were elated at this. MLAs and corporators led by Ashish Shelar, Gopal Shetty, Yogesh Sagar and MLC Vijay Girkar attended the event.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
