BS-VI Emission Norms To Be Implemented From 2020 To Reduce Vehicular Pollution : Union Minister Prakash Javadekar

Commiting to a cleaner and safer environment for citizens of India, the Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on Thursday (6 June) said that the government will be implementing the stringent BS-VI emission norms from the next year (2020) which will bring down vehicular pollution drastically, reports Economic Times.

The Union Environment Minister was addressing an event organized on the occasion of the World Environment day.

He said that the Modi government, looking at the poor environmental situation, advanced the switching to BS-IV vehicles by four years from the earlier decided 2022.

“Delhi's air began deteriorating in 2007. Narendra Modi government took the challenge with a solution oriented approach. That is why a decision was taken to jump to BS IV fuel vehicles, which were to be shifted to by 2022, fours years in advance,” Javadekar said.

The minister said that from 2020 onwards, the BS-VI fuel as well as the BS-VI compliant vehicles will be available in the country.

"Now in Delhi and in other places, from 2020 onward, BS VI fuel will be available and such vehicles will also be prepared for which a lot of hard work is required. But it is a commitment and it will be fulfilled. Vehicular pollution will drastically reduce with this effort," he said.
