German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said “the full veil is inappropriate” and called for a burqa ban, reported Mail Online. Merkel is said to have made the remarks at a conservative CDU conference, where she reportedly said there should be a ban on wearing burqa “wherever that is legally possible”.
Earlier, Merkel had said the burqa would hinder women from becoming integrated into German society.

As per the Mail Online report, Merkel also said she did not want a repeat of “a situation like the one in the late summer of 2015”, pointing to a time of large influx of migrants into the country.
The German chancellor will be seeking a fourth term in the election expected to be held in September 2017.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
