In the bypolls held in Punjab on 21 October, the ruling Congress has won the Jalalabad, Phagwara and Mukerian seats while the Shiromani Akali Dal has emerged victorious in Dakha. The party’s candidate Sandeep Sandu, a confidant of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, lost to the Akali Dal candidate from Dakha.
The Jalalabad seat was vacated by Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Badal, while the Dakha seat was vacated by the Aam Aadmi Party's H.S. Phoolka.
BJP's Som Parkash vacated the Phagwara seat, while Mukerian went to the polls following the demise of sitting Congress MLA Rajnish Babbi.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
