Expressing a keen interest in introducing its Electric Vehicle (EV) technology in India, South Korean automobile manufacturer Kia Motors has stated that if the Indian government creates more clarity on policy framework for the segment, the company could launch EVs in Indian market “very quickly”, reports Deccan Chronicle.

Kia is currently readying for the launch of its first EV model in India by mid-year. The company is a well known global player in electric, hybrid and other types of clean energy vehicles.

Its Indian subsidiary, Kia Motors India, is finalising the beginning of operations of its manufacturing plant at Anantpur, Andhra Pradesh which will have an annual production capacity of more than three lakh vehicles.

"We are fully equipped to bring electric vehicles to India. We have developed all kinds of technology from hybrid, mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, electric, fuel cell. Needless to say that no other brand is prepared for EVs like we are with our specialised technology," Kia Motors India Head of Marketing and Sales Manohar Bhat stated.

He added that as soon as the Indian government’s policy framework becomes clear, the company would quickly act to bring its environment-friendly automobile technology into the Indian market.

Kia has already provided the Andhra Pradesh government with several of its globally bestselling green vehicles, namely, the Niro Hybrid, Niro Plug-in Hybrid and a Niro EV. It is collaborating closely with the government to improve the EV infrastructure in the state.
