Loss-making private carrier Jet Airways has cancelled 14 flights to various destinations after several of its pilots reported ‘sick’ over non-payment of their dues.
Jet Airways has been defaulting payments disbursement to its senior management along with pilots and engineers since August due to a severe cash crunch. The carrier partially paid the staff for the month of September while full salaries of October and November remain unpaid.
“At least 14 flights have been cancelled so far due to some pilots reporting sick. They are protesting against non-payment of salary, dues and the indifferent attitude of the National Aviator's Guild (NAG) in taking up the issue with the management," quoted a source, as reported by The Economic Times. The NAG is a body of domestic pilots of Jet Airways, which reportedly represents 1,000 pilots.
The passengers who got affected after the flights got cancelled were informed of their flight’s status by SMS and were re-accommodated or compensated.
The pilots have, reportedly, written to the airline chairman Naresh Goyal that they are unwilling to work in these conditions. Jet Airways, however, is committed to meet its obligations and has been addressing the ‘cash crunch’ with its employees.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
