In an important development, the central government has accepted Bihar government's recommendation to handover the case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the Supreme Court (SC) about the centre's decision of approving Bihar's request to initiate a CBI inquiry in the matter.
The SC is currently hearing Sushant's girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty's plea that has sought transfer of investigation from Patna to Mumbai, in the case filed by Sushant's father against Rhea.
Earlier, Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government on Tuesday recommended a CBI probe into the death case.
This recommendation comes a few days after the Bihar Police dispatched a team to Mumbai to investigate charges levelled by Sushant's father in his complaint.
The Bihar Police though has been complaining about a lack of cooperation and support from its Mumbai counterparts which has included the investigation team members having to travel in auto-rickshaws. The BMC had also forcibly quarantined a senior IPS officer who was sent by the Bihar Police to lead the investigation.
Many fans of Sushant Singh Rajput had been fervently demanding a CBI probe into the actors death.
