The much-awaited launch of the e-waybill system to complement the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime that was supposed to happen today has been indefinitely postponed by the Centre. The reason given was technical difficulties faced by traders.
In view of difficulties faced by the trade in generating e-way bill due to initial tech glitches, it has been decided to extend the trial phase for generation of e-way bill, both for inter and intra-State movement of goods. It shall be made compulsory from a date to be announced

The system was thrown open for registrations for a 14-day trial period beginning 16 January and was supposed to be mandatory from today (1 February). However, technical glitches, mostly due to overloading on the servers has resulted it in being deferred indefinitely.
