Talking to reporters after visiting a vaccination centre in Ahmedabad, Union Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah exuded that with Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi's decision to provide free vaccines against COVID-19 to people aged 18 and above, we will quickly achieve the goal of inoculating almost everyone, reports Indian Express.
Shah emphasised that providing free vaccination is a big decision in a country having such a huge population. He also added that the Centre has decided to increase the pace of vaccination in July and August.
Presently on a two-day visit to Ahmedabad, Shah said, "Now we will reach the target to vaccinate almost all very fast."
It should be noted that starting today, the Centre has begun to directly procure COVID-19 vaccines to be supplied to the State Governments free of cost. These would then be used to inoculate all adults in the country.
The measure comes at a time when the country has witnessed the big and scathing blow of the second wave of COVID-19.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
