In a move to provide commuters with refreshment options and make commercial use of the vast floor spaces in the its stations, Chennai Metro Rail Limited will open food kiosks and other retail outlets, reports Times Of India.
CMRL has already floated tenders to establish kiosks on license basis. They are expected to become operational in the next few months. These kiosks would mostly serve easy to eat snacks and hot beverages.
At the initial stage, these kiosks would be set up in Koyambedu, Thirumangalam, Anna Nagar East, Shenoy Nagar, KMC, Nehru Park, Nandanam, Saidapet and Teynampet stations. The kisoks, measuring around 10-35 square metres are supposed to be opened on street side levels, at the entrances or parking lots of stations.
Currently, a few elevated stations, Koyambedu, Alandur, Vadapalani, Alandur and Airport and an underground station at Shenoy Nagar stations do have kiosks that serve some snacks and coffee.
