The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted field searches across multiple areas of Coimbatore city like Ukkadam, Kottaimedu, GM Nagar, Al-Amin Colony and Pullukadu, to further probe the blast that occured near the Sangameswarar Temple in Kottaimedu, a day before Diwali (23 October).
Of the nine lodged in Chennai's Puzhal prison in connection with the case, five were brought to the city to help with the investigation. The five accused who were brought to the city are Muhammad Azharudheen, Afsar Khan, Firoz Ismail, Umar Faaruq, and Feroze Khan .
After completing investigation in Coimbatore, the NIA plans to take Umar Faaruq and some of the other accused to Coonoor in Niligiris district as Faaruq's house in Coonoor was one of the meeting points of the conspirators, including Jameesha Mubeen, who died in the blast.
The accused will be produced again at the Special NIA Court in Chennai on 29 December.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
