After a two year delay, teachers will receive tablets which will assist them in administration work, The Indian Express has reported. According to officials in the Directorate of Education (DoE), 15 pilot schools chosen for the program would receive tablets “within the next few days”.
Director of Education Sanjay Goel said that a circular was sent to heads of 15 schools, which spelt out details of the procedure for availing tablets. Teachers have been instructed to purchase the tablets, which will then be reimbursed.
Out of the 15 pilot schools, three are from the North District and the rest from 12 other districts, with one school in each district as part of the programme. Furthermore, the sources informed that teachers in over 1000 Government Schools in Delhi would receive the tablets within the current academic year itself.
Earlier in July, deputy directors of education in all districts, received a circular asking them to name one school from their area for the pilot programme along with the details of all regular and guest teachers. The programme has finally picked up momentum after two years of its announcement in 2016.
Director of Education Sanjay Goel added that an application will soon be developed based on feedback and the method in which teachers use the tablet.“One idea that is being discussed is that the app can be developed such that when a teacher marks a student absent, the guardian can automatically receive a message notifying him/her of that,” he said.
Teachers have already received training to use the tablets along with the application developed for the purpose. It also has modules for recording attendance and examination marks.
