Following Canadian Prime Minister (PM) Justin Trudeau's wife testing positive for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), now Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez's wife Begona Gomez has also tested positive for the virus which is wreaking havoc across the globe, reports Asian News International (ANI).
It should be noted that the development became public knowledge merely hours after PM Sanchez had announced the imposition of a nationwide lockdown under which citizens of Spain now stand barred from leaving their homes for all causes apart from purchase of food and medicines.
The lockdown which will stay imposed for 15 days has been termed by PM Sanchez himself as 'drastic' and 'extraordinary'. The lockdown may be further extended after 15 days on the basis of a decision from the Spanish Congress of Deputies.
It should be noted that under the state of lockdown, all restaurants, bars, hotels, non-essential retail outlets and education centres across Spain will remain shut.
Spain has witnessed as many as 193 deaths because of the COVID-19 outbreak so far, while the total tally of confirmed cases stands at 6,250.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
