With the highest daily spike of 7,466 new cases in the last 24 hours, India's total case count of coronavirus jumped to 165,799, the Union Health Ministry data revealed on Friday (29 May).

According to the Health Ministry, of the total, 89,987 are active cases while at least 71,106 people have been cured of the disease.

At least 175 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total fatality count to 4,706.

Maharashtra, which has emerged as the worst Coronavirus-hit state in the country, has so far recorded 59,546 cases, including 1,982 fatalities and 18,616 recoveries. Tamil Nadu followed with 19,372 cases. The Covid-19 tally in Delhi has crossed the 16,000-mark with as many as 16,281 cases recorded so far in the national capital. Gujarat has reported 15,562 cases so far.

States with most casualties after Maharashtra are Gujarat (960), Madhya Pradesh (321), Delhi (316), and West Bengal (295).

States with more than 6,000 cases are Rajasthan (8,067), Madhya Pradesh (7,453) and Uttar Pradesh (7,170).

Among other states/UTs where corona cases have surged past 2,000-mark are West Bengal (4,536), Bihar (3,296), Andhra Pradesh (3,251), Karnataka (2,533), Telangana (2,256), Punjab (2,158), and Jammu and Kashmir (2,036).

According to the Health Ministry, 4,673 cases are being re-assigned to states.
