According to the police, their motorcycle was hit by a paramilitary truck when its driver lost control after coming under stone pelting in Kokernag's Hiller area. The troops were withdrawing from the area in the evening.
The jawans were from 164 Battalion of CRPF. The report says, "The driver, identified as Roop Singh, lost control of the vehicle and hit a motorcycle on which two CRPF jawans - Riyaz Ahmed Wani and Nissar Ahmed Wani - were riding."
"According to the police, the driver of the CRPF vehicle was pelted stones in the area, 85 kilometres from here, during the withdrawal operation in the evening," it adds.
According to NDTV, the stone throwers "took advantage of the hilly terrain".
The two CRPF jawans were rushed to a hospital after the accident. They were declared brought dead. Driver Roop Singh lost consciousness when a stone struck him during the pelting. The truck ran over the motorcycle which jawans Riyaz Ahmed Wani and Nissar Ahmed Wani were riding.
