:Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members of the Delhi Legislative Assembly assaulting Delhi chief secretary Anshu Prakash, were remanded to 14 days judicial custody on Thursday. The legislators were sent to Tihar Jail by a Delhi court, which reserved its order on their pleas for bail to Friday, reported Hindustan Times.
On Thursday, the two legislators one-day judicial custody expired and they were produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate Shefali Barnala Tondon for hearing of their bail applications.
The magistrate, who termed the alleged assault as sensitive, had rejected Delhi police demand to interrogate the legislators on Wednesday, while putting off the hearing on the bail petitions until Thursday since the prosecution sought time to provide documents.
The magistrate also Delhi Police petition to question the legislators in its custody for two days as the legislators, according to the Tondon, were ready to cooperate in the investigation.
Prakash was allegedly assaulted by the legislators during a meeting at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence on the 19 February night. Jarwal, who represents Deoli, was arrested on Tuesday night and Khan was nabbed on Wednesday.
In a related development, the medical examination of Prakash showed swelling and bruises on his face. The police are treating it as an important piece of evidence.
In a show of support for the Chief Secretary, bureaucrats in Delhi have formed a coordination committee consisting of representatives of all association. They also decided to continue their “peaceful protest” against the attack.
Indian Administrative Service Officers of Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Civil Service, Delhi Administration Subordinate Service and other Government employees association have also decided to work only through formal written channels of communication.
