Rapid rail transit system (RRTS) is set to be launched soon in Delhi-NCR, Mint reports. The train sets will be semi-high and aerodynamic. 2+2 transverse sitting arrangement has been made. In addition to that, standing spaces along with automatic plug-in type sliding doors aim to make travelling convenient.
For security measures, CCTV cameras will be installed. Separate cars will be designated for female passengers in the six-car train sets. The seat pitches of these trains are deemed to be comfortable whereas will have the choice of opting for business class seating too. The coaches will be completely air-conditioned.
In the Meerut local transit, a three-car train configuration will allow 900 passengers to undertake the journey. For the RRTS, a six-train configuration will accommodate of 1,790 individuals. Moreover, the trains can be increased to nine trainsets too due to their modular designs.
With a design speed of 180 kmph, 82-kilometre Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS will have 24 stations. The travel time from Delhi to Meerut is expected to be reduced to less than sixty minutes under via RRTS, for as many as 8 lakh passengers who make the journey everyday.
