French far-right leader Marine Le Pen has said refugees entering France shouldn’t expect to be taken care of, and especially kids of ‘illegal immigrants’ shouldn’t expect free education.
Speaking at a conference organised by the BVA polling organisation in Paris, Le Pen said,
I’ve got nothing against foreigners but I say to them: if you come to our country, don’t expect to be taken care of, to be looked after, that your children will be educated without charge. That’s finished now, playtime’s over.
Le Pen later clarified to reporters from AFP that she was specifically referring to illegal, undocumented immigrants and not foreigners in general.
Le Pen is the leader of Front National (FN) and a presidential candidate in the upcoming election in France in 2017. She has been riding the populist, nationalist, anti-establishment wave that has swept the West.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
