‘Distinctive’ Performance By Voters: Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram Record Almost 75 Per Cent Voting In State Elections

The states of Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram which went to polls today (28 November) saw plenty of voter enthusiasm which resulted in a healthy turnout. As reported by ANI, Madhya Pradesh saw a turnout figure of 74.61 per cent till 6 PM, with voting still underway.

Mizoram similarly notched a turnout of 75 per cent till about 5 PM up from 49 per cent recorded till 1 PM. The Congress has been in power in the state for two terms now, and is currently led by Pu Lalthanhawla.

Madhya Pradesh voters, where Shivraj Singh Chouhan is vying for a record fourth term, appear to have deployed the afterburners with the voting percent reaching almost 75 per cent from the figure of 50 per cent at 3 PM.

The reported tally of 74.61 per cent (which is expected to go higher) is about nine percentage points less than the 2013 figure of 83.4 per cent.

In all, over 5 crore voters were eligible to vote in Madhya Pradesh with polling taking place at 65,367 booths deployed across the 52 districts. Mizoram on the other hand has 7.68 lakh registered voters.
