FIR Against Geelani's Family Under UAPA For Raising Anti-National Slogans And Draping His Body In Pakistani FlagPro-Pakistan Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani

An FIR has been filed against certain individuals, including family members of the deceased separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for raising anti-national slogans and draping his dead body in a Pakistani flag prior to his burial.

Geelani, a hardline Islamist and long known as the face of Kashmiri separatism, passed away at his residence in Hyderpora in Srinagar on Wednesday.

However, videos soon surfaced of his body being covered under a Pakistani flag.

The administration of the union territory (UT) had imposed restrictions on the gathering of masses and also movement of people after Geelani’s death.

Moreover, both broadband services and also mobile internet were suspended in order to prevent any unruly incident in the valley.

The situation more or less remained peaceful after Geelani’s death and hence the restrictions were revoked post 10 pm on Friday.

Then, the curbs were reinforced on the morning of Saturday. The concerned video of Geelani’s dead body started circulating after the restoration of internet services, Times of India reports.
