Amid the rising the number of Covid-19 cases in the state, Mahrashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday (12 May) said that some of the districts in the state can battle the coronavirus by adopting the Covid-free Goa model, reports Times Now.

The comments were made by CM Thackeray while addressing district authorities over video conferencing on Tuesday. As per reports, he asked them to conduct house-to-house surveys to not only check people for coronavirus symptoms, but also monsoon-related diseases.

He also made clear that district borders would not be opened and asked the authorities to submit to the Centre their plans detailing how to ease restrictions during Lockdown 4.0 by Friday.

He also ordered them to focus on containment zones, and ensure that the lockdown restrictions are not eased in these areas.

Thackeray further added that even when the lockdown restrictions are relaxed in the impending future, the district boundaries will remain sealed, citing the massive movement of migrant labourers

The CM asked all district collectors and divisional commissioners to review if the exodus of migrants has caused any shortage of manpower, and fill it with locals.

It should be noted that Maharashtra remains the worst affected area in the country with over 25,000 covid-19 cases. Maharashtra on Wednesday (13 May) reported a new high of 54 Covid-19 deaths, while Mumbai accounted for a record 40 fatalities and the number of positive cases across the state achieved a new single-day spike of 1,495, health officials said here.

Notably, Goa had remained corona-free for over a month, till today (14 May) when 7 new cases were reported in the state, including five of a family who returned from Maharashtra. The state was accorded green zone due to wide spread successful efforts by the state government in containing the deadly coronavirus.
