The Mumbai Metro One which is promoted by Reliance Infrastructure announced its plans of increasing trips in the off peak hours. The metro operator plans to add 44 additional trips which would take the tally of services to 440 on weekdays from the current 396 trips. It is expected that with the festive season around the corner, patronage of the metro services would show a rapid uptick.
The metro service has fast emerged as a dependable source of transportation with the metro operator registering a 99.9 per cent punctuality performance and ensuring 100 per cent train availability.
The proposed measure to run an additional 44 trips between 11.30 and 16.00 hours would ensure a reduction in waiting time for a train from 8 minutes currently to 5 minutes. An additional 66,000 commuters can be handled by this addition in capacity.
A release from the metro operator stating the reasons behind the increase in frequency observed that “considering the prevailing festive spirit, this is a commuter-friendly stance of MMOPL to encourage more and more people to use Mumbai Metro and thus improve their travel experience and enable saving their money and time.”
