Former Congress MLA Asif Khan, AAP Student Leader Kasim Usmani Named As Accused In Jamia Violence

The Delhi Police today named former Congress MLA Asif Khan as an accused in the FIR for involvement for involvement in violent incidents that unfolded in Jamia Millia Islamia incident on Sunday (15 Dec).

Asif Khan is a former MLA from the Muslim dominated Okhla area. Muslims comprise 60 per cent of the nearly 2,80,000 voters.

According to Delhi Police, Asif Khan has been named along with six other accused.

The other six accused persons have been identified as local politicians Ashu Khan, Mustafa and Haider, AISA member Chandan Kumar, SIO member Asif Tanha, and CYSS member Kasim Usmani, police said.

Earlier today, 10 people, many of them with criminal records, were arrested for indulging in arson and setting vehicles afire during protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in New Friends Colony near Jamia Millia Islamia on Sunday, the Delhi Police said on Tuesday.

A senior police officer said none of those arrested were university students. "Out of the 10 arrested, three are bad characters of the area. They were identified and put under arrest," the officer said.
