Former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi has joined the board of Directors at Amazon, the online retail giant told the Times of India. The India-born had stepped down from the position at the food and beverage corporation in October 2017.

Nooyi is the second woman to join Amazon's board of Directors in recent times after Starbucks executive Rosalind Brewer joined earlier this month. Nooyi would become the audit committee member.

“We're thrilled to have elected two new members to our Board of Directors this month. Welcome, Roz Brewer and Indra Nooyi,” the online retailer said in its announcement.

Nooyi’s journey at Pepsico started in 1994 and held leadership roles in finance, development and corporate strategy. In 2001, she was elected as PepsiCo’s board of directors became their President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

She held the position of PepsiCo CEO for 12 years from October 2006 to October 2018, and also served as the Chairman of the board of directors for 12 years from May 2007 to February 2019. She also served as a director of Schlumberger Limited since April 2015.
