The United States of America (USA), United Kingdom (UK) and France have tabled a fresh proposal in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to name Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) supremo Masood Azhar as a global terrorist. This listing will impose a global travel ban, get his assets frozen, and will subject him to an arms embargo.
The proposal was moved on 27 February (Wednesday) by the three permanent veto-wielding members of the 15-nation Security Council, and the security council has ten working days to consider the fresh proposal.
This proposal, to list Azhar as a global terrorist, is the fourth bid in the last ten years with the other requests being raised by India in 2009 and 2016, and by the P3 nations in 2017 as reported by The Hindu.
However, on all occasions, China, a veto-wielding permanent member of the Security Council, blocked India’s proposal from being adopted by the Sanctions Committee.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
