In one of the year's biggest operation against Maoists in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli, the district' police have eliminated five of the active armed members of the left-wing extremist outfit Communist Party of India (CPI) (Maoist), reports Hindustan Times.
The elite anti-Naxalite C-60 team was conducting a combing operation in the Kosmi-Kisneli forest area when the armed Maoists attacked the forces. Upon retaliation by the forces, Maoists fled the spot. Later, bodies of five Maoists were recovered along with a large number of arms and ammunition and Maoist literature.
The five killed included three women and two male members of the Maoist outfit. They are still to be identified. Meanwhile, no casualties have been suffered on account of the C-60 team.
It should be noted that anti-Maoist operations have intensified in the district in recent months. Also, a larger search operation has been launched in the region where the Sunday (18 October)'s attack took place.
