Ganga Expressway: Land Survey For UP’s Longest E-Way Begins, Six Firms Express Interest In The Project 

Land survey for the construction of the Ganga Expressway, which will be the longest e-way in the state, has begun, a report in Dainik Jagran says.

According to the daily’s report, teams from UP’s revenue department and from Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) have started the land survey. Authorities will soon start acquiring land for the construction of the expressway, which will stretch over 590 kilometers.

The Ganga Expressway will link Meerut in western UP to Prayagraj in the eastern part of the state, passing through the districts of Hapur, Bulandshahar, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rai Bareli and Pratapgarh.

Another report in the Times of India says that six bidders have expressed interest in the expressway project. Two of these are foreign bidders — one from South Korea and the other from Malaysia. The report adds that the state government is planning to build the expressway on Public Private Partnership model.

In a meeting on 12 December, officials discussed the construction of the expressway under the Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer mode.

Given that the expressway is likely to cost nearly Rs 40,000 crore, the state government is considering various models of financing the project. In this regard, reports say, the Yogi Adityanath government may also go ahead with the monetization of existing stretches of expressways in the state.

Reports say the state government plans to lay the foundation stone for the project in June 2021, just months ahead of the 2022 assembly elections.
