Home Minister Rajnath Singh has sought a report from the Karnataka government on the murder of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the decision of handing over the murder case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will be taken by the Director General of Police (DGP). He also said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is going to be constituted to probe the murder case.
"I have taken stock of the investigation. I have given instruction to police. This case will be taken seriously and will be investigated by a special team. Therefore, a SIT is going to be constituted immediately to probe into this case. It is true that it is an organised crime, let the police look into it," the Chief Minister has said.
Addressing the media over the murder, Siddaramaiah said there was no threat to Lankesh's life. He also said that he could not ascertain if it was a case of conspiracy or a plotted murder.
Senior journalist Lankesh was shot dead on Tuesday (5 September) at her residence in Bengaluru by some unidentified assailants at around 8-8:30pm. (ANI)

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
