After abrogation of Article 370, the government is planning to table a bill next week to form a Union Territory (UT) by merging two union territories Daman and Diu & Dadra and Nagar Haveli, reports India Today.
As per reports, the move is being sought for better administration and check duplication of various work in the two UTs.
The two Union Territories are located just 35 kilometers away and have their own secretariat and separate budget. The administrative expenses are also expected to decrease with the merger of Dadra and Nagar Haveli with one district and Daman and Diu with two districts.
The restructured Union Territory is likely to be named as Dadra Nagar Haveli-Daman & Diu. Daman and Diu is likely to be made its headquarters.
The country currently has nine UTs after the creation of the UTs of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. However, with the merger of Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, the number of UTs will come down to eight.
