One of the senior national task force members informed on Saturday that a policy regarding booster doses of Covid-19 vaccines could possibly be declared by the end of the ongoing month
The official, however, maintained that the completion of the adult vaccination program at the earliest will be the priority of the government.
The National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) will be finalising the concerned policies.
“A comprehensive policy is likely to come out based on Indian epidemiology and the pandemic situation in the country and not based on other nations. The meeting should be held in the next two weeks,” the task force member was quoted in a report by the Times of India (TOI).
Though the policy over booster doses is in the preparatory stage currently, the primary objective will be to vaccinate the entire adult population with at least the first dose by 31st December, 2021.
So far, over 80 per cent of the adults have received the first dose whereas about 41 per cent of them have been vaccinated completely.
Several states had demanded booster shots for frontline workers in a recent meeting, as claimed by TOI.
