H S Phoolka, the lawyer-activist who waged a courageous fight for justice to 1984 anti-Sikh riots’ victims today (14 January) thanked the BJP for its support on the issue, The Tribune has reported.
“The BJP has always supported us in our fight for anti-Sikh riots victims. I met Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Home Minister Rajnath Singh and they supported my stand on it,” Phoolka said.
A former AAP leader, Phoolka was honoured for his role in getting justice for the victims at an event hosted by the Union Minister Vijay Goel who called described Phoolka as a “good man.”
“He is a good person who did a good thing. That is why we are felicitating him. People ask me, if he will join my party. The BJP wants all good people should join it,” Goel said.
Phoolka, having resigned from the AAP earlier this month, however, ruled out joining the BJP. “I am not joining any political party,” he said. Phoolka hadn’t cited any reason for his resignation earlier and had earlier met Goel to greet him on his birthday on 4 January fanning speculation that he might be joining the BJP.
Phoolka has spent years fighting court battles for victims of the 1984 riots and has been instrumental in seeing the cases through. Among his latest victories was getting the Delhi HC to uphold the conviction of 88 accused in the Trilokpuri riots case.

Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
