The income tax department has attached a Rs 150 crore worth hotel in Gurugram, which the department has considered as the ‘Benami’ property of Haryana Congress leader Kuldeep Bishnoi and his brother, reports Times of India.

The said 'Benami' property, owned in the name of a company Bright Star Hotel Private Limited, has been attached under section 24(3) of the Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act, 1988.

The development comes after the I-T department carried out major raids across 13 premises belonging to Bishnoi across Haryana, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh on 23 July on charges of alleged tax evasion.

According to the report, the I-T department sources have revealed that 34 per cent shares of the company were held by a 'front' company based in tax haven of British Virgin Island and that the company was being operated from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

They revealed that the said hotel entity and properties held by it are "the benami assets of Kuldeep Bishnoi and Chander Mohan (Bishnoi’s brother)“.

It should be noted that Bishnoi is the son of former Haryana Chief Minister (CM) Bhajan Lal, and is the incumbent MLA of the state's Assembly from Adampur constituency.
