In his Lok Sabha constituency of Amethi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has decided to renovate ancient temples in the city, supposedly being encouraged by his electoral gains his party has been receiving.

The money for the renovation would come from the MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) funds. Deccan Herald quoted Congress president for Amethi Yogendra Mishra as saying, “The money will be used to install high-mast lighting at the temples.”

Among the temples that will undergo renovation include the Hinglaj Bhavani Dham (Musafirkhana), Devipatan Temple (Amethi) and Kalikan Shakti Peeth (Sangrampur). A few months ago, the Congress chief also visited Kailash Mansarovar and has been having a tag of “Shiv Bhakt” ever since.

Even during the recent Assembly elections that were concluded in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chattisgarh, he was seen visiting many temples to counter the BJP on its image of being a party for the Hindus.

He also faces a threat from Smriti Irani, since she has been actively working in the constituency even after she lost the elections in 2014. She was seen distributing saris to local women. That apart, many other BJP leaders have also been campaigning in the constituency actively.
