In a major development, Manipur has finally come up on Indian Railway's vast network map as a Rajdhani Express recently completed a trial run from Assam's Silchar to Vaingaichunpao railway station located in Tamenglong district, reports Moneycontrol.
Following the development, State's Chief Minister (CM) N Biren Singh described the moment as 'historic' and said, "Historic moment for Manipur as the first trial run of a passenger train from Silchar to Vaingaichunpao in Tamenglong was successfully conducted on Friday."
CM Singh further added, "The people of Manipur are immensely grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the transformation brought under his leadership."
Seconding CM Singh, Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region Dr Jitendra SIngh also said, "Historic moment! Manipur makes its debut on the Rail Map of India. Trial run of the first passenger train from Silchar to Vaingaichunpao in Tamenglong was successfully conducted."
The successful trial was executed by North East Frontier (NF) Railway which already connects Assam to Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh. It is now expected to soon launch passenger train services from Vaingaichunpao to Silchar.
It should be noted that Indian Railways is planning to begin passenger train services in Manipur, Mizoram, and Nagaland by March 2023.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
