In a video clip going viral on social media, Abdul Shukoor, a man belonging to Ahmadiyya sect was seen sharing the plight of the community in Pakistan with the United States President Donald Trump.
The 81-year-old shared the discrimination and persecution faced by him in Pakistan. He told Trump that his community was declared “non Muslim” in Pakistan in 1974. Their houses and shops were looted and burnt. “I can call myself a Muslim in US, but not in Pakistan, ” he said.

He also said that he was jailed for selling books and a hefty fine was imposed on him. He had finally left the country after completing his sentence to come to US.
The video also elicited many hate-filled responses saying that Ahmadiyyas were not Muslims. Many termed it as an internal matter of Islamic faith not belonging to the domain of international politics.
On 19 July, as Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan visits US, Congress members wrote a letter to Trump about the forced conversion of minor Hindu girls in Pakistan, human rights abuses, and enforced disappearances in Sindh province, asking him to take up these issues with Khan.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
