Actor Swara Bhaskar has courted controversy once again after claiming that she had been ‘rejected’ by a director in Bollywood for ‘looking intelligent’, during her initial days of her career.
The New Indian Express quoted Bhaskar as saying, “I think everyone who comes to the industry has to face certain kinds of rejection for how they look. Otherwise, people would not be spending so much money on the makeup. All this is a reflection of a person's mindset. During the first meeting I had when I came to Bombay, a director rejected me saying, you look too intelligent. I have still not understood what that meant.”
She made the statement while speaking to PTI at the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. She added that it is best if a person ignores such matters and simply tries to focus on work and nothing else.
Furthermore, she said digital platforms today had emerged as a viable alternative to mainstream cinema that is shown across theatres. Swara also said she was a very “idealistic person” and a “believer of art”. Her new web series It’s Not That Simple is done with the production process.
