Bajaj Auto is all set to bring back the ‘Iconic Chetak’ scooter but in a new Avatar. On Wednesday (16 October), the company unveiled its electric version of Chetak and stated that the retail sales will commence from January, 2020, reports The Times of India.
The e-scooter will be initially rolled out in Pune and Bengaluru, and will be retailed through 'Pro-biking' network. Bajaj Auto MD Rajiv Bajaj, without disclosing the price, said, "We will price the Chetak electric very competitively."
The frame of e-scooter is based on the iconic Chetak, which dominated the two wheeler market for decades. The design is true to its origins but it has enhanced features like the front gets an oval LED strip around the headlamp, LED side blinkers and black front grille.
The e-scooter is a key-less ignition and is fully-connected through an app, and the e-scooter will be available in six-colour options.
Interestingly, the e-scooter does not carry any Bajaj insignia or branding on the body. Also, the manufacturer has kept the body in metal, doing away with plastic.
The electric scooter gets an IP67 rated Li-ion battery with two driving modes — economy and sport. The Chetak electric is fit to deliver 95 km and 85 km in eco and sport, respectively. Without revealing much about the specifications, officials said the battery cannot be swapped.
