Lindsey Graham who is a senior US senator from the Republican Party said, the Afghan war will end in few weeks if Pakistan stops providing safe heaven, reports The Hindu.

He said United States should negotiate with Pakistan instead only then one can see an end to the war in Afghanistan.

Graham said in an interview to Fox News on Monday (9 December), “As to negotiating with the Taliban, I think we got this wrong. I think what we should do is start negotiating with Pakistan. If Pakistan denied the Taliban safe haven in Pakistan, the war in Afghanistan would end in a matter of weeks.”

Graham also said, “So, I want to try to get Pakistan to change their behaviour through a free trade agreement tied to security performances, then talk to the Taliban. I want as much leverage over the Taliban as possible to end this war.”

Washington on Saturday began a fresh round of negotiations with the Taliban in Qatar. Whereas, three months ago President Donald Trump had stopped all the negotiation with the Taliban after the killing of an American soldier. Also, a lot of his supporters were not happy with the supposed secret talks with the Taliban at his US presidential retreat at Camp David.
