In a letter written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian Medical Association, IMA has suggested Covid-19 vaccination for all citizens over 18 years of age reported ANI.
The letter said that the measure is important to mitigate the risk of the new surge in Covid-19 cases. It says that vaccination is the only evidence-based resource to restrict the cases by raising individual immunity.
IMA has also suggested other measures for vaccination drives.
It has suggested for walk-in vaccination facility and the inclusion of private clinics and hospitals in the drive.
Further, the letter added that a vaccination certificate should be made mandatory to avail public distribution services and for visiting public places.
The letter also demands that a limited period of continuous lockdown be maintained at non-essential areas like religious and cultural events, cinemas and sports.
India registered 1.15 lakh cases in the last 24 hours (6 April), and around 8.70 Crore people have been inoculated against Covid-19.
The letter addressed to the prime minister is signed by IMA president JA Jaylal and secretary-general Jayesh M Lele.
