Social media platform Facebook will proactively shut down fake groups and pages, even if they do not violate their Community Guidelines, reports The Tribune.

"We may remove other pages and groups even if that specific page or group has not met the threshold to be unpublished on its own," Facebook said in a blog post on 24 January.

Further, the social media platform has also listed other steps to handle page contents that are against the policies of Facebook. "People who manage a page will see a new tab that shows when we remove certain content that goes against our community standards," Facebook said.

The tab will include two sections. content that Facebook has recently removed for violating a part of the Community Standards; and material which has been rated ‘False’, ‘Mixture’ or ‘False Headline’ by third-party fact-checkers recently.

The Mark Zuckerberg-led company also said that it would have material removed from content like hate speeches, harassment and bullying, and regulated goods, nudity or sexual activity, supporting or praising of people and events which are not allowed to be on the social media platform.

"We hope this will give people the information they need to report bad behaviour from page managers as well as better understand our Community Standards, and, let us know if we've made an incorrect decision on content they posted," the announcement added.
