In a shot in the arm for the National Democratic Alliance, Independent MLA from the Poonjar constituency and minority leader, P C George, has joined the BJP-led alliance, reports India Today.
George made the announcement of his new alliance in the presence of BJP’s state president P S Sreedharan Pillai. The lawmaker was originally a member of the Kerala Congress for some years previously.
He had then floated his own political outfit called Janapaksham and had succeeded in winning the Poonjar assembly seat. His entry into the ruling party’s alliance comes on the heels of the death of his mentor, K M Mani.
George had previously attempted to join the United Democratic Front (UDF) but had his bid blocked by Mani. He was also unable to become part of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) as Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan did not agree to it.
Saying that both the UDF and LDF have abandoned farmers, he praised NDA’s work regarding them.
"BJP has done lot for farmers. I support NDA in this election for what they have done for the farmers," he said.
According to George, the BJP is on track to win at least three seats in Kerala in the Lok Sabha elections, namely Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthita and Thrissur.
