‘India Led The World In Eradicating Small Pox, Polio’: WHO Says India Has Tremendous Capacity To Fight Covid-19 

World Health Organisation (WHO)'s Executive Director Michael J Ryan earlier today (23 March) lauded India's capacity to deal with the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic as 'tremendous' recalling the experience of India having successfully eradicated two previous pandemics, namely, smallpox and polio, reports Asian News International (ANI).

Asserting that there are no easy answers to contain the spread of the pandemic introduced to the world by the COVID-19 outbreak, Ryan underscored, "It is exceptionally important that countries like India show the way to the world as they have done before."

Ryan also emphasised India has witnessed a surge in the number of laboratories where there is a need. He also stressed, "India is a very populous country and the future of this virus will be considered in a very highly and densely populated country."

As per the WHO, the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 globally have surpassed the mark of 3,30,000 while more than 14,000 persons have succumbed to death as an outcome of the pandemic.
