Nokia has started manufacturing of 5G equipment in India, The Economic Times has reported . The Chennai manufacturing plant is building New Radio (NR) based on the 3GPP 5G New Radio Release 15 standard.

Nokia is planning to manufacture equipment such as fixed networks products in India. President of Fixed Networks at Nokia, Federico Guillen said that plan would go through only if they see enough demand coming from Indian telecom operators.

The Chennai plant of Nokia recently achieved annual production of four million 2G, 3G and 4G units. The plant serves both domestic and global customers.

“This is another big leap towards the ‘Make in India’ vision as our factory continues to contribute to the Indian economy and the country’s growing profile as a manufacturing and engineering hub,” Senior Vice-President and Head of the India Market at Nokia Sanjay Malik told Economic Times. Further, he added that Nokia was pioneering 5G manufacturing in India.
