In a latest report brought out by market research giant Counterpoint Research, it has been estimated that India has surged past the United States to become the second largest smartphone market in the world, reports Asian News International (ANI).
With a streak of flagship smartphones being introduced by Chinese technology giants like Xiaomi and OnePlus, the nation witnessed its smartphone shipments zoom by around seven per cent year-on-year to reach a figure of 158 million.
The report also said that the combined share of top smartphone brands reached the highest ever level of a whopping 84 per cent, with Xiaomi alone owning a market share of 28 per cent.
With a market share of 21 per cent, the South Korean technology giant Samsung grabbed the second spot. Following Samsung was another Chinese brand Vivo, which as per the report, had achieved a market share of 16 per cent.
As per the report, Apple also experienced growth in India. The report attributes this to price cuts to the company’s iPhone XR model as well as the release of the new iPhone 11 series of devices.
