In a significant scaling up of the national testing capacity, accredited public and private laboratories spread across the nation yesterday (25 July) tested highest-ever 4,42,031 samples of COVID-19, reports Times of India.
While the Government-run laboratories tested their highest daily tally of 3,63,153 samples, private laboratories also scaled up to conduct their highest cumulative total of 79,878 tests for COVID-19.
Sharing the figures, Dr Harsh Vardhan led Union Ministry for Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) pushed all the States to keep up with the strategy of aggressive testing, tracking and treatment which might eventually result into a high number of daily positive cases, but would ultimately lead to a decline in the total number of cases.
The MoHFW has attributed the achievement to the remarkable increase in the number of laboratories with the capability to conduct testing for COVID-19, which has risen from just one in January 2020 to 1,301.
Presently, there are 902 Government-run laboratories conducting such tests, while the number of privately owned laboratories stands at 399 in total.
